Welcome to Chapter Nine

The Compassion Triangle

In Chapter Nine we explore patterns of co-dependency using Dr. Stephen Karpman’s Compassion Triangle. Looking at the Drama Triangle first helps us to better understand the three unhelpful ego states. We learn about the Compassion Triangle to help us transform those ego states into their positive manifestations.
In the workbook you will find suggestions to help you identify when you are operating in the healthy ego states, i.e. the Advocate, the Protector, and the Child. You will also identify when you get hooked by the Savior, the Persecutor, and the Victim.
We’ve included videos in which Theresa shares her work from the Compassion Triangle exercise. Brian provides an overview of the Compassion Triangle and the Drama Triangle.
The PDF, Clinical Considerations, looks at how mental health professionals can utilize the material with their clients.
